JAZZ

Originally, the term jazz dance encompassed any dance done to jazz music, including both tap dance and jitterbug.

Overtime a clearly defined jazz genre emerged, changing from a street dance to a theatrical dance performed on stage by professionals.

(5-6 years)

The students are introduced to basic dance technique and movements and learn to express music through movement. The students work toward performing at the Mini Concert and the End of Year Concert.

Ros 3 (6-7 years)

Grades (8-11 years)

The students will learn NZAMD American Jazz syllabus work and work towards an examination in September. They will then prepare and work towards a dance for the End of year concert.

(11- 12 years)

This is a class for students who have sat Grade 4 Jazz to assist them to develop flexibility, and learn more advanced jumps and turns prior to going into Grade 5 Jazz.

The students will prepare for the SLS examination in September.

They will then prepare and work toward a dance for the End of Year Concert.

Jazz Grade 5, Pre-Elementary, Elementary, Intermediate, Advanced 1, Advanced 2

Jazz Repertoire/Heels 

Teen  L A T I N

(12 years plus)

The students will learn NZAMD American Jazz syllabus work and work towards an examination in September. They will then prepare and work towards a dance for the End of year concert.

Please note that exams must be taken in succession from Elementary. Students that have completed Advanced 2 may apply to sit Major Solo.

(15 years plus)

 

The students will learn exercises and routines each week to strengthen their jazz technique and performance skills. They will also learn the technique of dancing in heels and learn routines to showcase this.

Students must have previous jazz experience and be attending a jazz class.

They will work toward a dance piece for the Mid- year and End of year Concert. 

(12-14 years)

Students will learn combinations and routines in a number of Latin dance styles. Students will also learn how to walk and perform in heels.
