Originally, the term jazz dance encompassed any dance done to jazz music, including both tap dance and jitterbug.
Overtime a clearly defined jazz genre emerged, changing from a street dance to a theatrical dance performed on stage by professionals.
JAZZ
Our Jazz class options...
Ages 2 - 7 Years
JUNIOR JAZZ
In our junior classes students learn elements of many different dance genres. With the focus of having fun, these classes teach basic technique, musicality and grace.
Throughout the session they will work towards performing a routine at the End of Year Concert.
Junior 1, 2 and 3 will also complete a medal test in Term 3.
Classes include:
MOVE WITH ME, PRESCHOOL, JUNIOR 1, 2 AND 3.
Ages 12 years +
SENIOR JAZZ
The students will learn NZAMD American Jazz syllabus work and work towards an examination in September.
They will then prepare and work towards a dance for the End of year concert.
Please note that exams must be taken in succession from Elementary. Students that have completed Advanced 2 may apply to sit Major Solo.
Classes include:
Jazz Grade 5, Pre-Elementary, Elementary, Intermediate, Advanced 1-2
Ages from 7 years +
PRIMARY JAZZ
The students will learn NZAMD American Jazz syllabus work and work towards an examination in September.
They will then prepare and work towards a dance for the End of year concert.
Classes include:
GRADES 1, 2, 3 & 4
Ages 13 years +
TEEN AND REPERTOIRE
The students will learn exercises and routines each week to strengthen their jazz technique and performance skills.
Students must have previous jazz experience and be attending a jazz class to be in Jazz Repertoire. Jazz Teen is for less experienced dancers.
They will work toward a dance for the End of year Concert.
Classes include:
TEEN AND REPERTOIRE
Ages 11 - 12 years
JAZZ PRE-SENIOR PREP
This class is for students who have sat Grade 4 Jazz to assist them to develop flexibility, and learn more advanced jumps and turns prior to going into Grade 5 Jazz.
The students will prepare for the SLS examination in September.
They will then prepare and work toward a dance for the End of Year Concert.
Classes include:
PRE SENIOR PREP
Ages 13 years +
LATIN
Students will learn combinations and routines in a number of Latin dance styles and learn how to walk and perform in heels.
They will work towards and perform a dance in the end of year concert.
Please note students will complete a medal test in term 3.
