
Contemporary dance is a genre of the mid-twentieth century and has since grown to become one of the most dominant genres today.
Contemporary is an expressive dance style that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet.
Contemporary works with organic movement of our body while creating new and inventive ways of moving.
CONTEMPORARY
Our Contemporary class options...

Ages 8 Years +
PRIMARY
The students will follow the NZAMD contemporary syllabus work to help them develop an understanding of the principles of momentum, contraction and release, use of breath and floor work.
They will work towards examinations in September and then prepare and work towards a dance for the End of year concert.
Classes include:
Contemporary Intro, Preparatory, Level 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6.

Ages 9 years +
TEEN - OPEN
Students will learn basic contemporary techniques and principles through a variety of different exercises and combinations. They will also learn how to develop their own dance ideas through tasking and improvisation.
Contemporary Foundation students will work towards completing a medal test in term 3 and both classes will perform at the end of year concert.

Ages 9 years +
LYRICAL
Students will learn more advanced Lyrical techniques and principles through a variety of different exercises and combinations.
They will prepare a routine and work towards performing at the End of Year Concert.

Lyrical Foundation and Lyrical Repertoire
